Dyslexia services and supports are provided to students in Bellville ISD who are identified with dyslexia or a related disorder and have a need for specialized instruction in this area; this may also include students identified with dysgraphia.  Bellville ISD provides these services through both a pull-out, and push-in (integrated) instructional model.  Services are delivered by BISD teachers specially trained in both the area of reading, and also a specialized program: Reading by Design.  Reading by Design is a systematic, multi-sensory instructional approach aligned with research-based practices for developing literacy.

In addition, students identified with dyslexia or a related disorder, or, who are determined to be at risk for dyslexia or other reading difficulties have the ability to borrow audiobooks from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.  Students can borrow these resources free of charge through the Texas State Library Talking Book Program.  Learn more about this program, here: https://www.tsl.texas.gov/tbp/reading_disabilities

The Texas Education Agency updated the state Dyslexia Handbook in 2018. For more information on procedures concerning dyslexia and related disorders, please view the handbook here: 2018-Dyslexia-Handbook.pdf
