Child Find

What is Child Find?

The Bellville Independent School District’s (BISD) Special Education Department has a "Child Find" system for identifying, locating and evaluating all children/youth ages 3-21 and children who attend private schools or are home schooled and reside in BISD’s boundaries that may have a disability or are suspected of having a disability. Children with visual and/or auditory impairments can start services from birth. Your child must have a disability as defined through federal and state guidelines. As a result of this disability, your child must demonstrate an educational need for services. Disability categories include the following:

  • Speech/Language Impairment
  • Specific Learning Disability
  • Orthopedic Impairment
  • Other Health Impairment
  • Intellectual Disability
  • Emotional Disturbance
  • Autism
  • Multiple Disabilities
  • Traumatic Brain Injury
  • Visual Impairment
  • Auditory Impairment
  • Deaf/Blindness
  • Non Categorical Early Childhood

All services are provided at no cost to the individual or parent. Anyone who knows of a child/youth, who may need special education services, should contact
Dr. Megan Pape, Director of Special Education at 979-865-7012 or 979-865-7020.
