Bond 2021 Background Information

This bond proposal was developed by the district’s Capital Improvement Committee formed to study the facility needs in the district and make a recommendation to the BISD Board of Trustees. The committee was made up of a diverse group of parents, staff, community leaders, and residents both new to Bellville and those who have lived in the district for decades.

The committee was charged with addressing the district’s needs and proposing a course of action to address O’Bryant Intermediate and other district needs. They analyzed school conditions, capacities, and demographic projections across the district; studied the state’s school funding process, district financial data, and bond history; toured campuses, evaluated future facility needs and prioritized projects.
District Needs
Following months of review, discussion and consideration, the committee unanimously agreed on this proposal and presented their recommendations [FACILITIES PRESENTATION] to the BISD Board of Trustees on June 24, 2021.

Based on the recommendations from the Capital Improvement Committee, the BISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously to call for a $112.4 million bond election that will go before voters on November 2, 2021. The bond proposal is made up of two propositions in order to comply with a new law that requires certain projects to be listed separately on the ballot.

If approved by voters, this bond proposal will increase the district tax rate by $0.22.
